Dhaka, July 14 (V7N) – Today marks the sixth death anniversary of Hussain Muhammad Ershad, former President of Bangladesh and founding Chairman of the Jatiya Party. Ershad passed away on July 14, 2019, at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka at the age of 89.
To honor his legacy, the Jatiya Party and its affiliated wings have organized a series of programs, including prayers, tributes, and discussions, to observe the day with solemn respect.
This morning, senior leaders and grassroots activists gathered at the party’s central office in Kakrail, where floral tributes were placed at Ershad’s portrait. Party leaders emphasized that the Jatiya Party remains united and well-organized, and they reaffirmed their commitment to rebuilding Bangladesh under the party's vision.
A Legacy Remembered
Hussain Muhammad Ershad served as the President of Bangladesh from 1983 to 1990, after taking power through a military coup. Despite his controversial rise to power, Ershad played a significant role in shaping Bangladesh’s political landscape. He led the Jatiya Party as its Chairman until his death, remaining an influential figure in national politics.
As the party gears up for the next general elections, its leaders echoed a confident message today: “The Jatiya Party will rise again to build a new Bangladesh.”
Ershad's contributions and legacy continue to inspire both admiration and debate, but for his followers, he remains a symbol of resilience and political leadership.
