Dhaka, June 16 (V7N) — A new law addressing enforced disappearances is set to be enacted within the next month, Legal Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul announced on Monday following a meeting with members of the United Nations Human Rights Commission's Working Group on Disappearances at the Secretariat.

Dr. Nazrul said the interim government aims to pass important legislation before the anniversary of the mass uprising, which will include the formation of a strong, permanent enforced disappearances commission to operate under the new law.

He expressed optimism that leaders and activists from BNP and Jamaat, who have been victims of enforced disappearances, will show sincerity regarding the implementation of this law.

Additionally, Dr. Nazrul noted that there is scope for reconsideration of the Government Servants Act. He assured that the government has no malicious intent behind the law and said a report will be submitted to the Chief Advisor after carefully considering the demands of government servants.
