Sylhet, June 13 (V7N) – The country’s gas production is decreasing by about 200 million cubic feet every year, while dependence on LNG imports continues to rise, said Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, Advisor to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.

He made this statement while speaking to reporters after visiting several facilities, including the Kailashtila No. 7 well in Sylhet on Friday (June 13) morning.

The advisor said that steps are being taken to reduce LNG imports by increasing domestic gas production. However, he added that gas connections will not be provided to all the areas from which gas is extracted. Instead, the government plans to provide LPG cylinders at subsidized prices in those regions.

Highlighting the wastage of gas in residential pipelines, Fauzul Kabir Khan said that if necessary, the government may consider permanently discontinuing household gas connections in the future.

During this visit, he also informed that 16 million cubic feet of gas from two wells at the gas field have already been added to the national grid.
