London, June 10 (V7N) — Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus arrived in London early Tuesday morning (June 10) for a four-day official visit to the United Kingdom. His Emirates Airlines flight landed at Heathrow Airport at 7:05 am local time, where he was warmly welcomed by Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK, Abida Islam.
During the visit, Dr. Yunus is scheduled to meet British King Charles III at Buckingham Palace, where he will receive the prestigious ‘King Charles Harmony Award.’
On June 11, the Chief Advisor will hold a bilateral meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and deliver a special speech at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House. His address will focus on Bangladesh’s socio-economic progress, democratic transition, and future vision.
The UK and Bangladesh share a politically important relationship bolstered by strong commercial ties. The UK is Bangladesh’s second-largest trading partner and home to its largest diaspora community. Analysts suggest that Dr. Yunus’s visit could reinvigorate ties between the two nations, particularly in the areas of economy, trade, and investment.
In a notable development, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to meet Dr. Yunus in London on June 13 between 9 am and 11 am local time.
Meanwhile, Tulip Siddique, former British minister and daughter of Sheikh Rehana, has requested a meeting with Dr. Yunus during his visit. According to British media outlet The Guardian, she intends to discuss allegations of corruption related to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The Chief Advisor will also pay courtesy calls to the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) during his stay.
Dr. Yunus is expected to return to Bangladesh on June 14 after concluding his visit.
