Washington DC, June 7 (V7N) — Former US diplomats who previously served in Bangladesh have welcomed the announcement of an electoral roadmap by Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. They expressed optimism that the roadmap will pave the way for free, fair, and democratic elections in Bangladesh.

The diplomats made these remarks during an Eid-ul-Azha gathering held at the residence of Bangladesh Ambassador to Mexico, Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari, in Washington. The event brought together three former US ambassadors who had served in Dhaka, alongside other prominent figures from the US diplomatic community.

While celebrating Eid in a joyful atmosphere, the diplomats attentively listened to the televised speech of Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. His pledge to hold the next national elections in the first half of April 2026 was met with approval and enthusiasm by the former diplomats.

Ambassador Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari confirmed the matter on his verified social media accounts. “The morning of Eid-ul-Azha transformed our Washington residence into a lively gathering,” he wrote, adding that many friends, well-wishers, and dignitaries exchanged Eid greetings.

Highlighting the moment of Yunus’s address, he said, “As the speech of Professor Muhammad Yunus concluded—where he committed to free and fair elections—those present welcomed the announcement with optimism for the future of a democratic Bangladesh.”

Among the notable attendees were Ambassador Marsha Bernicat and Ambassador Dan Mozena, both of whom have served in Dhaka and have shown continued solidarity with the people of Bangladesh on matters of democracy and human rights. Other distinguished guests included John Zeezy, Ambassador Osman Siddiqui, journalists, and community leaders.

The diplomats emphasized the importance of democratic practices and expressed hope that Bangladesh is on the path to political stability and the rule of law through credible elections.
