Dhaka, June 5 (V7N) – Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, Advisor to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and the Ministry of Railways, announced that fuel prices have been reduced, and bus operators are strictly prohibited from charging extra fares. He warned that strict action will be taken against those who violate this rule.

The advisor made these remarks during a press briefing at the Sayedabad Bus Terminal in the capital on Thursday morning (June 5).

He stated that necessary arrangements have been made to ensure smooth travel for Eid passengers, with authorities closely monitoring for any irregularities. Measures are also being taken to address traffic congestion seriously.

Fauzul Kabir Khan revealed that he had received reports of fare anomalies, including a case where a bus operator charged 100 taka more than the official fare. The extra amount was refunded, and a fine was imposed on the operator.

He urged passengers to report any specific complaints regarding overcharging, promising immediate action in such cases.

It is notable that on May 31, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources announced a reduction in fuel prices for June: diesel prices were cut by 2 taka per liter, and petrol and octane prices were reduced by 3 taka per liter. This followed a 1 taka per liter reduction in fuel prices in May.

The advisor’s statements underscore the government’s commitment to protecting consumers from unfair fare hikes amid fuel price adjustments during the Eid travel season.
