Dhaka, Jun 03 (V7N) – Chief Advisor and Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has expressed optimism that the upcoming July Charter will be finalized through consensus among the country’s political parties.

“We have all gathered here today for the welfare of the country and the nation. Hopefully, by reaching a consensus with all political parties, we will be able to prepare a very beautiful July Charter,” said Professor Yunus during his opening remarks at the second round of political dialogue held at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Monday (June 2) afternoon.

He emphasized that the government is hopeful the political divide can be bridged in time to announce the charter next month, marking a significant step toward national reconciliation and reform.

Commission Working Against Time

Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, Professor Ali Riaz, also spoke at the event. He stated that the Commission, which is set to expire in August 2025, is working tirelessly to ensure the July Charter is released on time.

“We must succeed in fulfilling this sacred responsibility entrusted to us,” he added.

Broad Political Participation

The second round of the dialogue brought together representatives from various political parties and reform stakeholders under the chairmanship of Professor Yunus. The goal is to forge a common understanding around critical national reforms.

The National Consensus Commission was established to review and finalize recommendations from five key reform commissions focusing on:

  • The Constitution

  • The Judiciary

  • The Electoral System

  • Public Administration

  • The Anti-Corruption Commission

The first phase of the dialogue, held between February 15 and May 19, included discussions with 33 political parties.

The proposed July Charter is expected to outline a comprehensive roadmap for institutional reform, aimed at ensuring democratic stability and good governance in Bangladesh.
