Dhaka, May 05 (V7N) – Principal Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus has directed the formation of a high-level committee to address issues related to the sale of sacrificial animal skins, transportation, and waste management ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

The directive was given during a coordination meeting held at the State Guest House Jamuna on Sunday (May 4), chaired by the Principal Advisor himself.

“For years, we have seen people, especially the poor, being deprived of the fair value of sacrificial animal skins,” said Professor Yunus. “This mismanagement must stop, and syndicate control over skin pricing must be dismantled.”

He emphasized the need to ensure that no cruelty is inflicted on sacrificial animals during transport or sale, and stressed the proper use of Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs) in the leather processing industry.

To implement these directives, the Principal Advisor announced the formation of a high-powered committee led by Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin. The committee will include:

  • Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhtar

  • Industries Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan

  • Road Transport and Bridges Advisor Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan

  • Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Water Resources Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan

  • Information Advisor Mahfuz Alam

  • Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan

  • Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury

  • Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor on Home Affairs Md. Khoda Bakhas Chowdhury

  • BIDA and BEZA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashiq Mahmud Bin Harun

  • Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor Shafiqul Alam

  • Industries Secretary Md. Obaidur Rahman

  • Representatives from religious institutions and the leather industry

The committee’s responsibilities include ensuring fair pricing for animal skins, humane animal transport, efficient waste disposal, and market discipline during the Qurbani season.

Several senior advisors attended the meeting, including Adilur Rahman Khan, Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, and Mahfuz Alam.
