Dhaka, May 04 (V7N) – Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhtar has announced that there will be no need to import cattle for Eid-ul-Azha this year, as 12.47 million sacrificial animals are ready across the country.

Speaking at a press briefing on Sunday (May 4) at the Secretariat, she stated that Bangladesh's domestic farms have sufficient cattle and goats to meet the demand for Qurbani, and there is no risk of a shortage.

Farida Akhtar also said that strict instructions have been issued to law enforcement agencies to prevent the illegal entry of animals, especially from neighboring countries like Myanmar. "Any illegal animal entry will be dealt with firmly," she added.

The advisor warned that no animals, including goats, should be transported in the lock-up compartments of passenger buses, labeling such actions as violations of the law. She further emphasized that police will take strict action against anyone hijacking animal-carrying trucks.

"The sacrifice should be conducted only with animals raised locally. There is no need for foreign animals, and illegal entry will not be tolerated," she stressed.
