Dhaka, May 02 (V7N) – Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refat Ahmed has emphasized the importance of preserving the nation’s collective history and learning from past mistakes to build a better future. “History is not confined to the pages of books. Everyone must contribute to safeguarding our valuable historical legacy from their respective positions,” he said.

The Chief Justice made the remarks while addressing the 14th Biennial International History Conference organized by the Bangladesh History Council at Dhaka University’s Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) on Friday morning (May 2).

Highlighting the ongoing judicial reforms, Dr. Refat Ahmed noted that people are beginning to experience the benefits of the judicial reform roadmap. However, he cautioned that unless the spirit of the July Uprising is fully implemented, citizens may remain deprived of the full fruits of justice and reform.

Speaking at the event, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan stressed the need for inclusive participation in the university’s activities. “All stakeholders should be involved in taking the university forward, and the Bangladesh History Council has a vital role to play in this process,” he added.

The conference brought together historians, academics, and researchers from home and abroad to discuss Bangladesh’s historical evolution and its impact on contemporary society.
