Dhaka, May 01 (V7N)– On the occasion of Great May Day and National Occupational Health and Safety Day, Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus called on the people of Bangladesh to foster a culture of unity, mutual respect, and trust to rebuild a stronger and fairer nation.
In his message, Dr. Yunus paid tribute to the historic labor movement of May 1, 1886, in Chicago, which secured global recognition for workers’ rights including the eight-hour workday, fair wages, and the dignity of labor. He noted that May Day serves as a continuing source of inspiration in the global struggle for workers' rights.
"This day is of immense importance in advancing the country's economy through good worker-employer relations," he said, highlighting this year's theme: "Workers and employers united, let's build this country anew."
Dr. Yunus emphasized the need for collaborative efforts between employers and workers across all sectors — from garments and agriculture to transportation and technology — stating that such unity is vital for a self-reliant, discrimination-free Bangladesh born out of the student-worker-public uprising of July-August.
