Kurigram, Aug 15 (V7N) – A pedestrian named Abu Bakkar Khan, aged 50, was killed in a motorcycle collision on Thursday night in the Sadhu Mor area under Baldia Union of Kochakata police station in Kurigram.
The incident occurred around 9:00 PM, when Bakkar was returning home after work. According to local residents, as he reached the Sadhu Mor area, a motorcycle traveling from Kochakata towards Bhurungamari struck him. The impact caused severe head injuries.
Bakkar, a resident of Purbakedar village (Sadhu Mor area) and son of the late Sujab Ali Khan, was immediately rescued by locals and taken to Bhurungamari Upazila Health Complex. However, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Dr. Abu Sajjad Mohammad Sayem, Health and Family Planning Officer of Bhurungamari Upazila, confirmed that the victim was brought to the emergency department in critical condition. “He had sustained a major head injury and was bleeding profusely. He died just as treatment was about to begin,” the doctor stated.
Md. Ibrahim, the duty Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kochakata Police Station, confirmed the incident. “Police were dispatched to the scene upon receiving the report. Legal action is being initiated,” he added.
The accident highlights ongoing concerns over road safety in rural areas of Bangladesh, where speeding and lack of proper traffic management continue to result in fatal accidents.
