Rajapur, Aug 14 (V7N) – A gas cylinder fire injured two children in Rajapur, Jhalokathi on Wednesday night, highlighting ongoing safety concerns regarding faulty gas connections in residential areas. The incident occurred around 8:45 PM at a rented home on the southwest side of the school field in Rajapur town, belonging to expatriate Sarwar Khan.

According to local sources, the fire broke out due to a leak caused by a faulty switch and pipe in the gas cylinder. As soon as the stove was ignited, flames erupted and quickly spread to an electric ceiling fan and other household items inside the room.

Two children from Sarwar Khan’s family, Jihad and Abdullah, sustained minor injuries in the blaze. Both received immediate first aid and are reported to be in stable condition.

Abdul Khaleq, Station Officer of Rajapur Fire Service, said, “Thanks to the quick action of using wet jute sacks to smother the flames, a major disaster was avoided. It was by the grace of God that the damage wasn't worse.”

Although the fire was brought under control before it could spread further, several items including furniture and electrical equipment were damaged.

The incident has raised concerns among locals regarding the proper maintenance of gas connections and the need for stricter safety inspections to prevent such occurrences in the future.
