DHAKA, Mar 17, (V7N) — Natundhara Bangladesh (NDB) Chairman Momin Mahadi has said that the government’s most pressing challenge lies in the “conspiratorial activities” of Jamaat‑e‑Islami and the National Conservative Party (NCP). He made the remarks at a press conference titled “People’s Expectations Ahead of Eid” held Tuesday morning at the party office on Topkhana Road.
Mahadi cited recent incidents — including gunfire at Shaheed Minar, the killing of a Jubo Dal leader in Khulna, and a rape case in Kushtia allegedly involving a Jamaat leader — as evidence of attempts by opposition forces to destabilize the government. “The treasonous activities of Jamaat‑NCP in the National Parliament clearly indicate that the government’s biggest challenge is their conspiracy,” he said.
Party leaders present at the briefing, including Presidium Member and Freedom Fighter Fazlul Haque, Senior Vice Chairman Shanta Farjana, Joint Secretaries Monir Zaman and Wazed Rana, and member Hashem Molla, warned that condolence motions in the names of those who opposed Bangladesh’s independence would leave the 13th National Parliament “questioned in history.” They demanded cancellation of registrations for Jamaat, NCP, and 11 other parties linked to war criminals.
Mahadi also criticized the lack of complaint mechanisms for excessive transport fares ahead of Eid. “Without a system for lodging complaints, how can victims report their grievances? Ministers claim no complaints have been received, but there is no hotline or complaint box,” he said.
Turning to law enforcement, Mahadi accused the acting commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police of failing to protect citizens. He urged the Home Minister to learn from past incidents of enforced disappearances and ensure public safety. “The responsibility is to safeguard lives and property — not to extract assets,” he added.
The press conference concluded with calls for stronger accountability and reforms to meet public expectations during Eid. Party officials reiterated their demand for a political landscape free of parties accused of treason and war crimes.
