Dhaka, Mar 15 (V7N) – Mirza Abbas, political adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and a member of the BNP Standing Committee, has been admitted to Singapore General Hospital for advanced treatment following brain surgery.
According to BNP Health Affairs Secretary Dr Rafiqul Islam, the air ambulance carrying Abbas safely reached Singapore after a flight of around three and a half hours on Sunday afternoon.
“From the airport, he was quickly taken to Singapore General Hospital by ambulance,” Dr Rafiqul said.
He added that Abbas has been admitted to the Neuro ICU under the neurology department of the hospital. Doctors have already examined him and confirmed that he did not face any complications during the journey.
The air ambulance departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 11:17 am on Sunday.
Abbas was accompanied by his wife Afroza Abbas, son Yasir Abbas and physician Dr Zafar Iqbal from Evercare Hospital Dhaka.
The BNP leader underwent brain surgery on Friday. After nearly four hours of surgery, he was shifted to the intensive care unit later that night.
He had been admitted to Evercare Hospital on Wednesday evening after suddenly falling ill and losing consciousness during iftar.
A medical board comprising leading neurologists had been formed earlier to supervise his treatment.
