Sylhet, Jan 22 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) officially began its election campaign with a large rally at Alia Madrasa Ground in Sylhet on Thursday (January 22). BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman joined the rally as the chief guest, arriving at the venue at around 12:30 pm.
Leaders and activists started gathering at the rally venue in groups from late Wednesday night, with the crowd continuing to grow since early morning. Participants came from six parliamentary constituencies of Sylhet district and five constituencies of neighboring Sunamganj, creating a massive show of support.
Earlier in the day, Tarique Rahman held a ‘Youth Policy Dialogue’ at a hotel in Sylhet with students from various educational institutions. Speaking about the future of Bangladesh, he said that although the country’s population has increased significantly over the last 20 years, the benefits of citizenship have not grown proportionately.
Tarique Rahman also referred to his 17 years of forced stay abroad, saying that the experience he gained while living in the United Kingdom would be utilized to bring about major reforms in the country. He outlined several plans aimed at rebuilding Bangladesh and ensuring better governance.
During the dialogue, he responded to students’ questions on key national issues, including healthcare, education, employment opportunities, and fundamental social reforms, emphasizing the role of youth in shaping the country’s future.
The Sylhet rally marks the formal beginning of BNP’s nationwide election campaign ahead of the upcoming national polls.
