Dhaka, Jan 19 (V7N) — An unidentified motorcyclist placed a white envelope on the moving car of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman late Wednesday night in Gulshan, sparking concern over the security of the party leader. Tarique Rahman was inside the vehicle at the time of the incident. Police have yet to identify the motorcyclist.
The incident occurred around 11:45 pm on Gulshan Road No. 65, as Tarique Rahman was returning home from his office. Reports indicate that the motorcyclist approached the bulletproof vehicle at high speed, quickly attached the envelope to the car using tape, and sped away toward the American Club area.
According to the Officer-in-Charge of Gulshan Police Station, Rakibul Islam, the motorcyclist only attached the envelope with tape and did not physically interact with the vehicle. The purpose or content of the envelope remains unknown, and the matter is under active investigation.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area, which shows the motorcyclist riding a white Hero Honda Hunk motorcycle alone. The footage confirms that the envelope was attached without any interference from the Chairperson Security Force (CSF) personnel assigned to Tarique Rahman’s convoy.
Deputy Commissioner of the Gulshan Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Rownak Alam, confirmed that the envelope is now in the possession of the CSF and that authorities are investigating its contents. Police continue efforts to identify the motorcyclist and determine the motive behind the incident.
The event has raised concerns about the security protocols for prominent political figures in the capital and has prompted a review of convoy safety measures for Tarique Rahman.
