Dhaka, Nov 09 (V7N) — BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that more disagreements have emerged beyond the points of consensus reached on the July Charter.
He made the remarks while speaking at a book launch event at the Crime Reporters Association on Sunday (November 9).
Amir Khasru stated that those who are trying to obstruct the upcoming national election “do not believe in democracy.” He emphasized that people now want elections, and “there is no scope to act outside the will of the people.”
He further said that some individuals are attempting to make decisions bypassing public opinion, which contradicts constitutional principles. “There is no provision for a referendum in the Constitution. A referendum cannot be held before amending the law in Parliament,” he added.
Despite that, the BNP has agreed to a referendum to be held on the election day, he said.
