Dhaka, Oct 8 (V7N) – Administrative approval has been granted for the reconstruction of 17.23 kilometres of rural roads, along with the construction of bridges and box culverts, in Ramgati upazila of Lakshmipur under the Bangladesh Sustainable Recovery, Emergency Preparedness and Response Project (B-STRONG).

The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) issued the administrative approval on October 4 and subsequently sent a letter to the executive engineer of LGED in Lakshmipur regarding the approved works. The package, titled "B-STRONG-LGED-LAX/RD-5," has been given an implementation period of 540 days.

Scope of Works

Under the package, a total of 17.230 kilometres of emergency rural roads will be reconstructed. The works will also include the construction of a 34.50-metre box culvert and a 15-metre-long girder bridge. Three important roads in Ramgati upazila will be developed under the project:

Darbar Road: Reconstruction from chainage 80 metres to 2,760 metres, including reconstruction of a 16.50-metre box culvert

Shani Road: Reconstruction from chainage 1,300 metres to 5,700 metres, including construction of a 15-metre-long girder bridge and a nine-metre box culvert

Char Laxmi-Boyarchar (Mohammadpur Bazar) Road: Reconstruction from zero to 10,150 metres chainage, including construction of a nine-metre box culvert

The LGED has instructed the concerned authorities to invite tenders through the e-GP system as soon as possible.

Local sources said several important roads in the southern part of Ramgati had remained in poor condition for a long time due to a lack of proper repair and maintenance, causing significant hardship to residents. Travel on the roads becomes particularly difficult during the monsoon, while deteriorating bridges and culverts at various points have also disrupted communication. The reconstruction of the roads and construction of necessary bridges and culverts have been undertaken to ease the long-standing public suffering.
