Dhaka, Oct 5 (V7N) – LAMB celebrated 50 remarkable years of serving, healing and transformation today with a special anniversary programme under the theme 'A Legacy of 50 Years' held at the Festival Hall of Hotel Radisson Blu in the capital.
The event highlighted key milestones and achievements that have shaped LAMB's journey and its contribution to health and community development, according to a press release issued by the LAMB head office located in Parbatipur of Dinajpur.
The celebration brought together distinguished guests, government representatives, development and technical partners, health professionals, colleagues, supporters and friends of LAMB to reflect on five decades of service and look towards the future of health and community development in Bangladesh.
LAMB runs various programmes funded by Women's Hope International, Children's Investment Fund Foundation and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) .
Director General (Secretary) of the NGO Affairs Bureau at the Prime Minister's Office Dr Mohammed Jakaria attended the event as the chief guest. Director of the Institute of Public Health Nutrition (IPHN) Bangladesh Dr Mohammad Eunus Ali and its Deputy Director Dr Rawshan Zahan Akhter Alo were present as honourable guests. LAMB Executive Director Dr David Chandran delivered the welcome address.
Volunteer of LAMB USA Stacy Saha delivered a presentation on LAMB's 50-year achievement in various sectors. A LAMB video documentary titled 'A Legacy of 50 Years' was screened showing the achievements and activities of the organisation in Bangladesh. Notable achievements include various partnerships, innovations, and an unwavering commitment to underserved communities, with a particular focus on maternal, child, and women's health among marginalized populations in rural areas.
Fistula Surgeon at LAMB Hospital Dr Hafiza Khatun delivered a presentation on 'Stop Suffering Female Genital Fistula Project' , narrating the importance of treatment, dignity, rehabilitation and support for women affected by obstetric fistula. Dr Luise Tina Day from London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine delivered a presentation on the 'MAMI Care Pathway project' . Health Manager of UNICEF Bangladesh Dewan Md Emdadul Haque moderated the open discussion session.
The speakers highly appreciated the health-related and humanitarian services and various other programmes of LAMB and its contribution to community development in northern Bangladesh over the past 50 years. Dr Mohammad Yunus expressed gratitude to LAMB for its efforts in eradicating fistula and supporting malnourished mothers and children successfully.
Chief guest Dr Zakaria remarked that LAMB's 50th-anniversary Golden Jubilee is not merely a milestone but a shining example for the country's healthcare sector. He also recommended further expanding LAMB's activities. Later, Helen Manisha Sarkar, a board member of LAMB, delivered the closing remarks and vote of thanks.
