Dhaka, Sept 26 (V7N)– Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed has ordered an investigation into whether police negligence contributed to the attack and demolition of the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur-1.
After inspecting the site today, the DMP chief said a three-member committee will examine whether police responded in time despite a nearby police station. "Action will be taken against any officer found negligent," he said.
Police have already arrested four people—Sohel (22), Jewel (23), Jihad Hasan (21), and Rabib (20)—in connection with the incident. They were arrested from different parts of Mirpur and, according to police, admitted their involvement during initial questioning. Raids are underway to arrest others.
The centre was attacked around midnight on Thursday by more than 200 masked men, who allegedly held two security guards hostage, looted medical equipment, medicines, vaccines, cash and other valuables, and later used heavy machinery to demolish the facility.
The Radda MCH-FP Centre estimated the damage at over Taka one crore. A case has been filed with Shah Ali Police Station in this connection.
The Radda MCH-FP Centre is a maternity and child health centre operated by Radda, a non-governmental organization. The attack has raised concerns about law and order in the capital and the protection of healthcare facilities. The DMP chief's order to investigate possible police negligence reflects the seriousness with which the authorities are treating the incident.
