DHAKA, Sept 23, (v7n) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a charge sheet against 18 people, including former Bhola-3 lawmaker Nurunnabi Chowdhury for allegedly embezzling around Tk 35 lakh by withdrawing funds without implementing, or only partially implementing, 15 projects under the TR, Kabikha and Kabita programmes in Bhola.
ACC Secretary Md Saidur Rahman Khan disclosed the information at a regular media briefing at the ACC headquarters today.
The others accused include Lalmohan Upazila Project Implementation Officer Sohag Ghosh, Tazumuddin Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md Selim Mia and the chairmen of the respective projects.
The ACC's Integrated District Office, Barishal, found that 356 projects were undertaken in Lalmohan and Tazumuddin upazilas under the TR, Kabikha and Kabita programmes during the 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 fiscal years.
Of the 15 projects, Tk 3,172,333 was withdrawn without implementing any work on 11 projects, while Tk 331,000 was withdrawn for four projects in Lalmohan where the work was only partially completed.
A case was filed on July 14, 2025 under Sections 409, 420 and 109 of the Penal Code and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947, in connection with the alleged embezzlement.
The ACC investigation found the allegations to be substantiated, citing abuse of power, fraud and criminal breach of trust allegedly committed through collusion among the accused.
Following the investigation, the ACC submitted the charge sheet to the court against all 18 accused.
