Rajshahi, Sept 22 (V7N) – A day-long cultural competition was held in Rajshahi today with the participation of primary and secondary-level students as part of the observance of 'Nazrul Year', celebrating the birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and promoting his literary and cultural works among students.
The Ministry of Cultural Affairs organized the event in collaboration with the Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC).
Students from primary schools, kindergarten schools, and technical and secondary schools in the city participated in five categories—Nazrul Sangeet, poetry recitation, painting competition, acting (solo), and dance (solo). The competitions were held from 10 am to 4 pm at the Nagar Bhaban.
Since morning, a festive atmosphere was created at the Nagar Bhaban with the spontaneous participation of students and guardians. Students of different ages participated in the competition, showcasing their talents in various categories.
Sohel Rana, Member Secretary of the Organizing and Management Committee for the Cultural Competition on the occasion of Nazrul Year and Secretary of RCC, visited various rooms at the Nagar Bhaban to ensure the smooth completion of the overall activities of the competition. At that time, Enayetul Islam, Personal Assistant to the RCC Administrator, and other concerned officials were present.
The government has declared 2026 as 'Nazrul Year' to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam, the National Poet of Bangladesh. Various programmes are being organized across the country throughout the year to celebrate his life, works, and contributions to Bengali literature and culture. Nazrul, known as the 'Rebel Poet' for his powerful writings against oppression and injustice, is celebrated for his extensive body of work, including poems, songs, novels, and essays. His songs, known as Nazrul Sangeet, remain immensely popular in Bangladesh and West Bengal, India.
