Dhaka, Sept 15 (V7N) – National Test captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto has expressed his excitement about the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 tournament, citing it as an important platform for players to prove themselves and for emerging cricketers to make their mark.

Shanto shared his thoughts in a video released on the official BPL page, recalling his long association with the tournament and the thrill he feels ahead of each season. "By the grace of Allah, I have been playing in the BPL for many years. Every year, whenever I hear that the BPL is going to start, there is a different thrill. This is a very big platform for us as players. If we can perform well there, it always brings something positive for ourselves and our careers," he said.

For Shanto, however, the BPL is about more than individual performance. He believes the tournament plays a vital role in shaping the future of Bangladesh cricket by providing opportunities for young and emerging players to showcase their talent.

"BPL is a very big tournament for our country. Every year, we see several emerging young players get the opportunity to play here. So it is a very important platform for us," he added.

According to Shanto, performing well in a major tournament like the BPL can boost players' confidence and have a positive impact on their careers. The Bangladesh Premier League has been a launching pad for several Bangladeshi cricketers who have gone on to represent the national team across formats. Players like Afif Hossain, Parvez Hossain Emon, and Shamim Hossain have used the platform to establish themselves in the national setup.

There was some uncertainty surrounding the next edition of the BPL as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) wants to take time to redesign the tournament and make it free from controversies. The BCB has been working on a revised model for the tournament, with discussions about potential changes to the format, scheduling, and franchise ownership. The board aims to address issues related to match-fixing, player payments, and governance that have plagued the tournament in recent years.

The BCB has not yet announced the dates for the next edition of the BPL, though it is expected to be held in early 2027. The tournament remains a key part of Bangladesh's cricketing calendar, providing domestic players with exposure to high-quality T20 cricket and opportunities to compete alongside international stars.
