Dhaka, Sept 7 (V7N) – The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has recommended attaching the allegations against former principal secretary Ahmad Kaikaus to its ongoing inquiry into irregularities and corruption in the power purchase agreement between Adani Power Limited and the Bangladesh government.
ACC Deputy Director of the Public Relations Department Md Aktarul Islam disclosed this at a briefing at its headquarters today.
The allegations against Kaikaus include corruption, irregularities, abuse of power and acquisition of illegal assets. The ACC said Kaikaus served as the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister as well as Secretary of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.
It said allegations had been raised against him of acquiring illegal assets through various acts of corruption, irregularities and abuse of power.
The ACC's decision to expand its investigation comes amid growing scrutiny of the power purchase agreement between the Bangladesh government and Adani Power Limited. The agreement, signed during the previous Awami League administration, has been a subject of controversy over pricing and procurement practices.
In recent months, the ACC has been actively investigating several high-profile cases of alleged corruption, including those involving former government officials and business figures. The commission has intensified its probe into the power sector, which has been a focus of the government's anti-corruption campaign.
The ACC has indicated that it will continue its investigations into various sectors, including energy, infrastructure, and finance, as part of its broader effort to combat corruption and promote good governance in Bangladesh. The commission has sought cooperation from relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure a transparent and thorough investigation.
