**Dhaka, Sept 3 (V7N)** – Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam today sought stakeholders' cooperation and suggestions to finalise three cyber-related laws, stressing the need for strong laws and public awareness to protect people from cyber invasion in the context of current social media content .

The minister made the remarks at a press conference held at the ICT Division Conference Room marking 180 days of the BNP government. He said the Cyber Security Act, Personal Data Protection Act and National Data Management Act had been approved by the National Parliament, adding, "We want to discuss these further with the stakeholders and turn them into final laws" .

"We want you to make constructive criticism so that society remains good and our children can be kept on the right path while moving forward in step with modern technology," he said.

The three laws represent a significant overhaul of Bangladesh's digital legal framework. The **Personal Data Protection Act, 2026**, enacted in April, establishes a consent-based framework for data processing, grants citizens rights to access, correct, and delete their data, and imposes fines up to BDT 5 million for non-compliance . However, rights groups have raised concerns over broad exemptions for national security and the lack of institutional independence of the National Data Management Authority, which operates under the Prime Minister's Office .

The Cyber Security Act is currently being amended to introduce a 24-hour takedown requirement for international platforms like Meta to remove harmful content, with new provisions targeting AI-generated deceptive media and defamatory content . A five-member cabinet committee is reviewing the proposed amendments .

Regarding digital infrastructure initiatives, the minister said an integrated platform for providing startup grants had been launched with a Tk 500 crore grant fund. Broadband internet connections had been provided to 19,822 institutions, while construction of 15 Upazila Service and Information Technology Training Centres had been completed. He also said the pilot of the National Response Data Exchange (NRDEX) Platform had been completed .

On flagship projects, he said, "One of the government's flagship projects is 'One Citizen, One ID, One Digital Wallet'. The DPP of this project will be completed very soon, and I hope we will be able to take it to a stage within the next six months." The initiative aims to enable citizens to access public and private services through a single digital identity .

Faqir Mahbub Anam, also Science and Technology Minister, said a Bangla screen desktop and mobile version had been developed for visually impaired people, a Disaster Recovery Centre completed at the Software Technology Park in Jashore, and the National High School Programming Competition and National Cyber Drill 2026 had been organised.
