Patiya, Chattogram, Aug 29 (V7N) – Enamul Haque Enam, MP, today said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has launched the 'Farmer Card' initiative to support marginal farmers in rural areas, enabling landless farmers to grow vegetables on vacant and uncultivated roadside plots with government support.
Enam made the remarks as chief guest at a programme for distributing free seeds and fertilisers to farmers in the Shobhondandi area of Patiya upazila this afternoon. Under an initiative of Mabila and Syed Foundation Chairman SM Harun Ur Rashid, seeds and fertilisers worth Tk 1,920 each were distributed among 250 local farmers.
He said farmers without their own land would be able to grow vegetables on vacant and uncultivated roadside plots, with the government providing necessary support. The Farmer Card initiative, launched under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's leadership, aims to provide subsidized agricultural inputs and financial support to small and marginal farmers across the country.
Enam expressed concern over what he described as propaganda on social media regarding fertiliser supplies. He also alleged that banned groups were spreading misinformation and attempting to create unrest over gas and electricity. He urged people not to engage with those spreading such misinformation and warned that action would be taken against anyone attempting to incite unrest.
The programme was presided over by SM Harun Ur Rashid. Former Upazila BNP Member Secretary Khorshed Alam, district BNP member Shafiqul Islam and former Upazila BNP Joint Convener Moinul Alam Choton, among others, attended the programme. Local BNP, Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal leaders and activists were also present.
