Natore, Aug 29 (V7N) – Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad and Natore-2 lawmaker Advocate M. Ruhul Quddus Talukdar Dulu today said the government is working to restore economic stability and rebuild the country's fragile economy, pledging tougher action against corruption and embezzlement of public funds.
"The government is working to revive the economy. Those who misappropriate government money will no longer be spared and will have to face imprisonment," he said while speaking as chief guest at a programme at the Natore District Council Auditorium, where cheques from the District Council's grant were distributed among helpless and destitute patients and beneficiaries of various development institutions.
He accused the previous Awami League government of leaving the economy in a vulnerable state after 17 years in power, alleging that mega projects were used as avenues for corruption, embezzlement and transferring money abroad. "Thousands of crores of taka were embezzled in the name of development and allegedly siphoned abroad," he said, adding that the government would no longer tolerate such practices.
The whip also accused former Awami League leaders and their associates of conspiring from neighbouring countries and spreading misinformation about Bangladesh. He urged citizens to remain alert to what he described as attempts to create confusion and undermine stability in the country.
On minority issues, Dulu alleged that incidents of land and property grabbing of minority communities were widespread during the previous government's tenure. He said the BNP government was committed to protecting minority communities and ensuring their security.
He also criticised what he termed attempts to portray individual criminal incidents as communal persecution, saying the people of Bangladesh would thwart any conspiracy against the country.
The programme was chaired by Natore District Council Administrator and District BNP Convener Rahim Newaz. Natore Deputy Commissioner Mosammat Sumoni Akter, Additional Superintendent of Police Ifte Khair Alam, District Council Chief Executive Officer Md Parvezur Rahman, District BNP Joint Conveners Mostafizur Rahman Shaheen and Saiful Islam Aftab, former Natore Municipality Mayor Kazi Shah Alam and Sheikh Emdadul Haque Al Mamun, among others, attended the programme.
