Khulna, Aug 29 (V7N) – Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Md Delwar Hossain has stressed quality production, value addition and coordinated efforts to strengthen Bangladesh's shrimp and fisheries sector and improve its competitiveness in international markets.

He made the remarks at a view-exchange meeting with leaders of the Khulna region of the Bangladesh Frozen Foods Exporters Association (BFFEA) at Shrimp Tower in the city on Friday evening, organized by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and the Khulna regional chapter of BFFEA.

Hossain called for stronger coordination among government agencies, private-sector stakeholders, shrimp farmers, traders and exporters to develop the sector sustainably and expand exports.

The meeting discussed shrimp and fish production and processing, quality assurance, and measures to ensure the supply of safe and hygienic fish in the domestic market.

Speakers stressed the need to improve product quality, curb unscrupulous trading practices and restore discipline in production and supply chains. They also called for increasing the production and export of value-added shrimp products to build Bangladesh's reputation as a premium supplier in global markets.

The participants also discussed expanding shrimp farming in the Khulna region, raising productivity and promoting environmentally friendly and quality cultivation practices. They emphasized providing farmers with training and technical support to adopt modern and sustainable farming methods.

Director General of the Department of Fisheries Dr Md Khaled Konok, Chief Scientific Officer Dr Moin Uddin Ahmed, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Abu Sayed Md Monzur Alam and Director of the Khulna Divisional Fisheries Department Md Zahangir Alam addressed the meeting as special guests. BFFEA Acting President Md Tariqul Islam Zaheer presided over the meeting.

The speakers said stronger government-private sector cooperation would be essential to making Bangladesh's shrimp industry more sustainable, prosperous and competitive in global markets.
