DHAKA, Aug 26, (V7N) —A court here today sent Bidisha Hossain, former wife of late President Hussain Muhammad Ershad, to jail in a case in which she was sentenced to two years' imprisonment for embezzling money through executing a deed to sell an apartment and issuing threats.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Zunaid passed the order as police produced her before the court in line with the conviction warrant. Bidisha's counsel, however, pleaded for her bail, saying they would appeal against the conviction.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jamshed Alam on May 20, 2026, convicted and sentenced Bidisha to two years imprisonment and fined her Taka 10,000 in the case.
According to the case documents, businessman AKM Mosharraf Hossain Shikdar entered into an agreement with Bidisha in 2001 to purchase flat 2/B at the President Park apartment complex in Baridhara for Taka 80 lakh. Shikdar paid Taka 75 lakh through a pay order prior to the registration.
Bidisha was scheduled to complete the registration and hand over the flat by July 10, 2002, but she failed to do so. After delaying the matter for four to five years, she later agreed to refund the money and issued a cheque, which was dishonoured on several occasions when presented for encashment.
She also allegedly threatened the victim over the demand for returning the deed and the cheque. The complainant, AKM Mosharraf Hossain Shikdar, filed the case in 2008.
