Gazipur, Aug 8 (V7N) - Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam has said technology-driven development will be sustainable only when the country's youth lead the change.
He made the remarks while addressing the RoboFusion 1.0-National Robotics Festival at the University of Frontier Technology, Bangladesh in Kaliakair, Gazipur.
The minister said the government's goal is not just to bring technology to people's doorsteps but to create an environment where young people transform from users of technology into innovators. "To this end, we are giving priority to artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity, innovation, research, startups, and skilled human resource development," he said.
He emphasized that universities must become centres of research, innovation, and industry-academia cooperation. "Research and innovation at universities have been the main driving forces behind the technological success of developed countries across the world. Universities in Bangladesh must also play that role more strongly."
The minister noted the world is undergoing unprecedented technological transformation, with AI, robotics, IoT, cloud computing, cybersecurity, semiconductors, and quantum computing shaping the future of economy, industry, education, and employment. Bangladesh, he said, is a partner in this global change.
Faqir Mahbub Anam highlighted several initiatives already implemented and ongoing, including ensuring internet for all, expanding AI and emerging technologies, strengthening cybersecurity, and increasing startup support. He reiterated the government's commitment to building skilled, time-befitting human resources and ensuring no section of society is left behind.
He reminded students: "You need research and innovation. Do not just use technology; innovate technology. Let new startups be born from your innovations." He called on young people to create new employment and showcase Bangladesh's capabilities internationally.
The minister also mentioned the Taka 500 crore startup fund announced by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, saying it would help turn promising innovations into successful ventures. He stressed that the government is working to build a strong innovation ecosystem through partnerships among universities, research institutions, and industry.
Later, responding to journalists, the minister said necessary measures would be taken regarding companies allocated space in the Kaliakair Hi-Tech Park that have not yet established industries. He noted that investment proposals from Europe and China have been received and space would be provided accordingly.
University of Frontier Technology, Bangladesh Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Moktar Ali chaired the event. Gazipur-1 MP Md Mojibur Rahman, former VC Prof Dr Md Abu Yusuf, Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Nurul Karim Bhuiyan, and others also spoke.
Academics, researchers, industry representatives, students, innovators, engineers, technologists, and media personnel from across the country attended the programme.
