Dhaka, Aug 6 (V7N) - BNP Senior Joint Secretary General and Political Adviser to the Prime Minister Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said that allowing fugitive accused Sheikh Hasina, currently in India, to deliver political speeches is an insult to Bangladesh's national sovereignty and amounts to interference in its internal affairs.
Rizvi made the remarks after paying tribute at the mausoleums of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia on the occasion of the 37th founding anniversary of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) .
He said Hasina is a fugitive accused from Bangladesh, with trials ongoing against her in various murder and corruption cases. Although the Bangladesh government has sought her extradition under the bilateral treaty, India has yet to respond . "Allowing such a fugitive accused to deliver political speeches is contrary to mutual trust and respect between the two countries," he said .
Rizvi noted that even during the fascist Hasina era, DAB doctors faced job dismissals and persecution but did not deviate from their professional ideals . He also stated that the current government is working to rebuild a democratic state, with initiatives including constitutional amendments and dialogue with opposition parties. "At such a time, giving the fugitive Sheikh Hasina a platform is disrespectful to the country's sovereignty," he added.
