DHAKA, AUG 04 (V7N): Bangladesh will nationally observe "July Mass Uprising Day" on Wednesday, August 5, marking two years since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government following a historic, student-led mass movement that fundamentally reshaped the nation's political trajectory.

To honor the heavy sacrifices of student martyrs, activists, and citizens who stood against autocracy, the government alongside political parties and socio-cultural organizations have rolled out extensive nationwide commemorative programs.

Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman issued separate national addresses calling for unity, democratic accountability, and social justice.

Acting President's Call: Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmed urged all citizens to remain united in building a humane, discrimination-free, and democratic state. Remembering martyrs such as Abu Sayed, Mugdha, Wasim, Yamin, and young children caught in the violence, he emphasized that the spontaneous movement proved once again that the people remain the ultimate source of state power.

Prime Minister's Message: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman highlighted August 5 as a day of liberation and democratic restoration, reflecting on the fifteen years of political persecution, secret detention centers ('Aynaghar'), and institutional collapse under the previous administration. He emphasized that the nation owes an eternal debt to the families of over thousands killed and 30,000 injured during the 2024 movement.
