July 31 (v7n) - Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Abu Zafar Md. Zahid Hossain has called on the public to plant more trees, stressing that there is no alternative to afforestation for preserving ecological balance.

The minister made the appeal while inaugurating a three-day tree plantation campaign and tree fair at Nawabganj upazila in Dinajpur, themed “Let’s decorate the country through tree plantation, Bangladesh first.”

He noted that tree fairs are being organized nationwide to promote the planting of fruit-bearing, timber, and medicinal trees. He encouraged citizens to use vacant spaces around their homes for planting saplings, pointing out that trees offer lasting benefits such as food, environmental protection, and medicinal resources.

Dr. Zahid also reaffirmed the government's ongoing commitment to public welfare, social security, and overall development.

Following the inauguration, he launched repair and renovation work at the Nawabganj Upazila Parishad auditorium and distributed sewing machines, educational stipends, and financial aid to beneficiaries under various government schemes.

The event was attended by government officials, public representatives, teachers, students, and local dignitaries.
