SANGSAD BHABAN, June 28, 2026 (v7n): Social Welfare Minister Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain today reaffirmed the government's firm commitment to safeguarding the social security of underprivileged and marginalized communities through a well-structured national action plan.
The Minister shared these updates on the parliamentary floor while responding to a starred question raised by treasury bench member Md. Shahadat Hossain, representing the Lakshmipur-1 constituency in the Jatiya Sangsad.
Dr. Zahid explained that the administration is systematically working toward a universal coverage model to ensure that all eligible senior citizens, vulnerable widows, distressed women, and individuals living with disabilities are integrated into the state's social allowance frameworks.
He acknowledged that while the country navigates realistic financial and resource limitations, the government has continually scaled up both the total number of recipients and the individual allowance amounts each fiscal year. This progressive expansion, he noted, is executed in a strategic, balanced manner aligned with annual national budgetary allocations.
The Minister concluded by emphasizing that these ongoing structural adjustments are intentionally designed to widen the country’s social safety net, providing a vital economic cushion for a much larger segment of the vulnerable population.
