DHAKA, June 23, 2026 (BSS) — Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Prof. Dr AZM Zahid Hossain today said the government is working tirelessly to implement its electoral pledges to improve the lives of the country’s people.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the present government aims to build a humane Bangladesh for all. We are working tirelessly to implement our electoral promises for changing the fate of this country and its people,” he said.
The minister spoke as chief guest at a financial assistance distribution programme for stroke-paralyzed patients at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in the capital. The event was organized by the hospital’s Social Service Office and Patients’ Welfare Association.
Dr. Zahid distributed TK 50,000 each to 100 of 400 stroke-affected patients. He also spoke with patients and wished them a speedy recovery.
He noted that allocations for the destitute, helpless, and underprivileged, as well as for social protection, have doubled in this year’s budget compared to last year, with all allowances also increased.
“In line with our electoral commitments, we are standing by helpless patients suffering from strokes and other long-term diseases by providing medical treatment, rehabilitation, and financial support,” Dr. Zahid added.
State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr MA Muhit, speaking as special guest, said: “As a doctor, I know that poor patients come to hospitals in large numbers for treatment. We must provide them with proper care and treatment, paying attention to reducing their financial burden. This will ensure that patients speak well of you and the hospital. You all have a big role to play in this regard.”
The event was chaired by Professor Dr. Mohammad Nuruzzaman Khan, Director of the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital.
Hospital directors, neuroscience specialists, patients, and their family members attended. Many families expressed gratitude to the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for the humanitarian initiative.
