SANGSAD BHABAN, June 18, (V7N) — Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan informed Parliament today that the names of 6,787 martyred freedom fighters have been officially included in the Bangladesh Gazette.
Responding to a starred question from ruling party lawmaker Ruhul Amin Dulal (Pirojpur-3), the minister said the government is also positive about preparing a list of genocide victims from the 1971 Liberation War, which will be undertaken in phases.
In reply to another starred question from BNP lawmaker Faridul Kabir Talukder (Jamalpur-4), Ahmed Azam Khan announced that the government has increased the monthly honorarium by Tk 5,000 for gallantry title-winning freedom fighters in the upcoming 2026–2027 fiscal year.
Under the revised structure, families of Bir Shrestho recipients will receive Tk 40,000 per month, Bir Uttam recipients Tk 30,000, Bir Bikram recipients Tk 25,000, and Bir Pratik recipients Tk 25,000.
The minister emphasized that these measures reflect the government’s commitment to honoring the sacrifices of freedom fighters and ensuring their families receive due recognition and support.
This initiative, he said, is part of a broader effort to preserve the legacy of the Liberation War and provide welfare to those who fought and sacrificed for the nation.
By including the names in the Gazette and enhancing financial support, the government aims to uphold the dignity of the martyred heroes and their families.
Ahmed Azam Khan reiterated that the recognition of freedom fighters remains a priority, and further steps will be taken to ensure their sacrifices are remembered and respected.
The announcement marks another milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to institutionalize the memory of the Liberation War and strengthen support for its veterans and martyrs’ families.
