DHAKA, May 20, (V7N) — A Dhaka court today convicted and sentenced Bidisha Hossain, former wife of late president Hussain Muhammad Ershad, to two years in prison and fined her Tk 10,000 in a case involving embezzlement and threats over an apartment sale.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jamshed Alam delivered the verdict this afternoon and issued an arrest warrant for Bidisha, who has not yet been taken into custody.
According to case records, businessman AKM Mosharraf Hossain Shikdar signed an agreement with Bidisha in 2001 to buy flat 2/B at the President Park apartment complex in Baridhara for Tk 80 lakh. Shikdar paid Tk 75 lakh via pay order before registration.
Bidisha was supposed to complete the registration and hand over the flat by July 10, 2002, but did not. After delaying for four to five years, she later agreed to refund the money and issued a cheque, which was dishonored multiple times.
She also allegedly threatened the victim when he demanded the return of the deed and cheque. Complainant AKM Mosharraf Hossain Shikdar filed the case in 2008.
