MAY 10 (V7N) - The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) is launching a massive 10-day emergency truck sale across the nation starting tomorrow, May 11, to stabilize the prices of essential goods ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. This special initiative, which will be inaugurated by Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir in Agargaon, involves the deployment of 720 mobile trucks designed to provide subsidized commodities directly to the general public. Unlike the standard TCB cardholder system, this emergency campaign is open to all consumers, allowing them to purchase vital supplies without a permanent TCB card.

Under this program, which runs until May 21 (excluding Fridays), a total of 13,939 metric tons of essential items will be distributed. Each truck is expected to serve approximately 400 people daily, reaching an estimated 28.80 lakh consumers over the 10-day period. The subsidized price list and purchase limits per person are as follows:

Edible Oil: Tk 130 per litre (maximum 2 litres)

Sugar: Tk 80 per kg (maximum 1 kg)

Lentils: Tk 70 per kg (maximum 2 kg)

To ensure effective nationwide coverage, TCB has implemented a strategic distribution plan. Dhaka Metropolitan and the surrounding district will be served by 50 trucks, while Chattogram Metropolitan and its district will receive 20. Other divisional cities across six divisions will have 15 trucks each, and the remaining 56 districts will be allocated 10 trucks apiece. This emergency measure acts as a supplement to the existing permanent cardholder program, which continues to support approximately 72 lakh low-income families with nearly 35,000 metric tons of subsidized products this month.
