Feb 23 (V7N) - The government has appointed full-time administrators to oversee six major City Corporations, including Dhaka North and Dhaka South, until new elections for these corporations are held. The decision was announced by the Local Government Division (LGD) under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and Cooperatives in a notification issued on Sunday.

The appointed administrators are as follows:

Md. Abdus Salam: Administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation

Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan: Administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation

Nazrul Islam Monju: Administrator of Khulna City Corporation

Abdul Quayum Chowdhury: Administrator of Sylhet City Corporation

Md. Sakhawat Hossain Khan: Administrator of Narayanganj City Corporation

Md. Shawakat Hossain Sarkar: Administrator of Gazipur City Corporation


According to the notification, the administrators will hold the powers and responsibilities of the Mayor under the relevant sections of the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024. They will also receive allowances as per the established rules.

The notification states that this order, issued in the public interest, comes into immediate effect.
