FEB 12 (V7N) - According to Election Commission and centre-based reports, a total of 62,864 votes have been counted from 61 polling centres. Of these, 11-party alliance candidate Nahid Islam, contesting on the Shapla Koli symbol, has secured 31,966 votes. BNP’s M.A. Kaiyum, running on the Sheaf of Paddy symbol, has received 30,898 votes. The constituency has 162 centres in total.
Preliminary results show Nahid Islam leading by 1,068 votes. The contest between the two candidates had been anticipated as highly competitive, and early figures confirm the intensity of the race.
Meanwhile, referendum results from the same 61 centres show 46,827 votes in favor of “Yes” and 14,503 for “No.”
Strong voter turnout was reported since morning in Rampura, Badda, and surrounding areas. Youth-driven parties and alliances appear to have drawn significant attention, with Nahid Islam building a notable support base among younger voters despite Kaiyum’s established presence in the constituency.
