Ukhiya, Feb 8 (V7N) — A joint operation by security forces in Balukhali and nearby areas of Ukhiya has resulted in the detention of more than 600 Rohingyas, authorities confirmed. The detainees were reportedly residing illegally outside designated refugee camps.
The operation began early Sunday morning and is ongoing. Major Ahsanul Hai Sourav, Deputy Commander of the 9th Bengal Regiment, confirmed the operation, stating, “Rohingyas staying outside the camps are being identified and detained. The operation is ongoing, and further actions will be taken according to the law.”
Earlier, the joint forces had detained five Rohingyas from Dohazari in Chattogram in multiple rounds and returned them to the refugee camps.
Local administration sources said regular operations are being conducted to prevent Rohingyas from freely moving or living outside camps. Authorities emphasized that such operations will continue to maintain security and law and order in the area.
