Dhaka, Jan 12 (V7N) — The interim government has failed to achieve its objectives in almost all reform initiatives, said Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Executive Director of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).

He made the remarks at a TIB press conference in Dhaka on Monday (January 12).

Dr. Iftekharuzzaman stated that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has failed to ensure accountability, adding that the interim government has set a precedent that could allow future governments to violate the July Charter.

“The interim government has shown a path for the next government to violate the July Charter,” he said.

Criticizing the proposed Police Commission, he warned that instead of ensuring accountability, it could become an institution that protects the abuse of police power.

“The Police Commission could have been a good law if it had not created opportunities for bureaucratic control,” he added.

TIB expressed concern that without genuine structural reforms and independence of institutions, the expected transformation in governance and accountability remains largely unfulfilled.
