DHAKA, May 19, (V7N) – The Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry today lauded the captain, first officer, and a cabin crew member of a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight for their exceptional professionalism and composure in successfully landing their aircraft after a rear wheel detached during flight.
The commendation followed an incident on May 16th involving Biman Flight BG-436, which was traveling from Cox’s Bazar to Dhaka with 71 passengers. Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft experienced a mechanical issue when one of the wheels from its landing gear reportedly fell off mid-air.
Despite the emergency situation, Captain JSMM Billah, First Officer Zayed Tajim, and cabin crew member Jamal Uddin skillfully managed the situation with remarkable calm and precision. Their actions ensured the safe return and landing of the aircraft, with no injuries or further incidents reported.
Aviation and Tourism Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin presented the commendations at a ceremony held at Biman's headquarters, Balaka Bhaban, in the capital, according to a press release from the ministry.
Praising the crew's courageous and timely response, the adviser urged all stakeholders to maintain heightened vigilance and strengthen safety protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.
Following the recognition ceremony, Adviser Bashir attended a presentation on Biman’s ground handling readiness at the newly constructed third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).
He emphasized the importance of completing the third terminal's construction work on time and with high quality to enhance the country's aviation infrastructure and ensure seamless service delivery.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Nasreen Jahan and Biman Bangladesh Airlines Managing Director and CEO Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, along with other officials, were present at the event.
