Barguna, Dec 03 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has officially dissolved all its upazila, municipal, union, and ward-level committees in Barguna district, totaling 466 committees. The announcement was made on Monday through a notification signed by BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

The move was confirmed by Nazrul Islam Molla, convener of Barguna district BNP and BNP candidate for Barguna-1 (Sadar–Amtali–Taltoli) constituency. He explained that previous district committees had formed all local-level committees, but controversies arose regarding their operations. He added that new committees at all levels will be formed after the upcoming national elections, and for now, only ward-level election management committees will be established.

Barguna district comprises six upazilas, four municipalities, and 42 unions. According to party sources, the dissolved committees include 42 union committees, 378 ward committees (nine per union), six upazila committees, four municipal committees, and 36 municipal ward committees (nine per municipality).

Previously, in 2022, a 31-member district convening committee was formed with Mahbub Alam Faruk Molla as convener and the late Tarikuzzaman as member-secretary. That committee faced allegations of financial irregularities and involvement in non-party activities while forming upazila, municipal, union, and ward committees. Two years ago, the central BNP dissolved that committee. On September 20 of this year, the central BNP announced a three-member partial convener committee for Barguna district.

The decision to dissolve all local-level committees reflects BNP’s effort to reorganize and streamline its district operations ahead of the next national elections, ensuring transparency and accountability in forming new local leadership structures.
