Barguna, Sept 12 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested a man with 350 kilograms of suspected deer meat, three deer hides and a deer head during an overnight operation in Patharghata upazila of Barguna.
The arrested man was identified as Md Ibrahim, 48.
Lieutenant Md Salman Bin Shawkat, media officer of the Bangladesh Coast Guard’s South Zone, confirmed the seizure on Friday.
According to the Coast Guard, acting on a tip-off, personnel from Coast Guard Station Patharghata conducted an operation around 2am on Thursday in the Kalia Khal area near Bishwas Bari Government Primary School in Ward No. 2 of South Char Duani Union.
During a search of a wooden boat, the Coast Guard recovered 350 kilograms of deer meat, three deer hides and a deer head. Ibrahim was arrested in connection with the seizure.
The Coast Guard estimated the value of the seized deer meat at Tk 4 lakh 20 thousand, the three hides at Tk 3 thousand and the deer head at Tk 1 thousand. The wooden boat used in the alleged transportation was also seized.
Ibrahim, along with the seized deer meat, hides, deer head and boat, was handed over to the Patharghata Upazila Forest Department for further legal action.
Lieutenant Salman Bin Shawkat said legal proceedings had been initiated through the Forest Department.
“The Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to protect forest and wildlife resources,” he said.
