Teknaf, Aug 21 (V7N) — Ten people allegedly being held for illegal sea passage to Malaysia were rescued in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, during a raid by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). A suspected member of a human trafficking network was also arrested.

RAB-15 conducted the operation on Wednesday evening near PHP Ice Mill in Naittyangpara area of Ward 1 in Teknaf Municipality.

Acting on a tip-off, a RAB team raided the area. When the suspects attempted to flee after sensing the presence of the law enforcement officers, the team chased and arrested Abdul Amin, 22, a resident of Naittyangpara.

During preliminary questioning, Amin reportedly told RAB that the 10 people had been gathered there after being promised opportunities to travel to Malaysia illegally by sea.

The rescued individuals and the arrested suspect were later handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station for further legal action, RAB said.

Officer-in-Charge of Teknaf Model Police Station Saiful Islam confirmed the incident and said police had received one person from RAB in connection with the case.
