PABNA, Aug 1 (V7N) — Police have rescued an abducted schoolboy and arrested five suspected members of an alleged kidnapping gang during a joint overnight operation in Pabna town, officials said.

The operation was carried out late Thursday by detectives from the District Detective Branch (DB) and officers from Pabna Sadar Police Station.

The victim, Indrajit Das Ray Deb, 15, is a tenth-grade student at Pabna Mahim Chandra Jubilee High School and the son of Proloy Das Ray of Shibrampur Narikel Bagan Road in Pabna town.

According to DB Officer-in-Charge Rashidul Islam, the teenager left home on July 23 following a family dispute. After he failed to return, his family searched for him and filed a general diary (GD) with Pabna Sadar Police Station on July 29.

Police said relatives located the boy later that day and were taking him home by rickshaw when a group of men allegedly intercepted them near Ahmed Rafiq Girls' High School on Dilalpur Beltala Road at around 11:55 p.m. The suspects allegedly abducted the teenager, demanded a ransom of Tk 500,000, and threatened to kill him if the money was not paid.

Acting on the information, DB and local police launched a joint raid in the Shaista Khan Lane area shortly after midnight. Detecting the presence of law enforcement, the suspects allegedly abandoned the boy and attempted to flee.

Police rescued the teenager unharmed and arrested five suspects during the operation.

The arrested suspects were identified as Afnan Ahmed Abir, 21, Rakib Hasan, 19, Nazmus Sadat Nafi, 19, Bishal Sheikh Sad, 22, and Sanzid Hasan Supto, 19.

Following legal procedures, the rescued student was handed back to his family.

The victim's mother, Rita Rani Das Ray, has filed a kidnapping case with Pabna Sadar Police Station. The five suspects were produced before a court on Friday and subsequently sent to jail pending further legal proceedings.
