Dhaka, Sep 20 (V7N)- The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has published the full 500-page verdict sentencing Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) President and former Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu to 10 years in prison in a crimes against humanity case linked to the July 2024 mass uprising.
The full judgment was published on Sunday after being signed by the tribunal's three-member panel led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury.
Inu was sentenced on June 30 after the tribunal found him guilty on three of eight charges. He received 10 years' rigorous imprisonment on each of the three charges, but the sentences will run concurrently, meaning he will serve a total of 10 years.
The tribunal convicted Inu on charges 3, 6 and 7 while acquitting him of the remaining five charges. The case included allegations related to crimes against humanity during the July uprising and the killing of six people in Kushtia.
The full verdict also details the tribunal's findings regarding allegations of political persecution, violence, injuries, conspiracy, incitement and complicity in crimes against humanity.
Tribunal prosecutor Mizanul Islam said the prosecution would appeal against the verdict, with preparations for the appeal already underway.
The prosecution had earlier indicated that it was seeking a stronger sentence and challenging the acquittals on the remaining charges.
The case arose from allegations concerning the July-August 2024 mass uprising, including the deaths of six people in Kushtia on August 5, 2024. The victims included workers, students, a businessman and an employee, according to court reporting.
The publication of the full verdict now allows the prosecution to proceed with its planned appeal against the tribunal's June 30 judgment.
