Dhaka, Feb 16 (V7N) — The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh has stayed a High Court order that mandated the closure of lower secondary and secondary schools throughout the month of Ramadan. The stay was issued by Justice Farah Mahbub on Monday, February 16.

Previously, on Sunday (February 14), a High Court bench comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Md. Asif Hasan had directed that government and private lower secondary and secondary schools remain closed during Ramadan.

The petition for the initial closure order was filed by Md. Ilyas Ali Mandal, who sought a writ asking that schools be closed for the duration of the holy month.

The Appellate Division’s stay means schools will remain open while the matter is further reviewed by the higher judiciary.
